So Simple Bathtub Table

I've been wanting a "bathtub table" for so long now. (What are those things called?!) Anyway, I finally just decided to build one.

I was able to do this project for about 12 bucks. Yes!! Those are my favorite kinds of projects!

So I started off by measuring the width of our bathtub and figuring out how wide I wanted to make the table. Be sure to take into account the width of the "feet" that will raise the table above any lip on your tub as well as any amount of overhang you'd like on each side of those feet.

I was able to do this project in just 6 cuts.  That means there was very little saw dust to vacuum!

Once I figured out the length of my table top and made those cuts, it was time to figure out the bottom side where all the supports would be.

I made the feet and middle support about 2 inches shorter than the width of the table top.

I also in-set the legs about a half inch from the edge. Warning!! If you want to have your legs inset, double check how wide you made your table to be sure the legs will have plenty of room to stretch over the tub! Leave some wiggle room so it's easy to move!

Oh! And as with every woodworking project, don't forget to glue all of your pieces together before screwing them together.

I found screws that the hubby had laying around that were a perfect length to go through the "feet" and into the table top but not through the top. Keeping the screws going through the bottom saved a lot of time trying to hide screw holes on the top and gave a nice clean look.

We had some left over stain from when we built our nightstands so I used that for this bath table.  I put on some latex gloves to keep my fingers pretty ;) and used a couple of old rags to apply it evenly.  I let the stain sit for about 15 minutes then took another clean rag and wiped off any excess.

To seal the stain, I used two thin coats of polycrylic.  (Not pictured).  This stuff is great.  We use it to seal anything we've ever painted or stained in our home.  We buy ours at Lowe's & Home Depot.

So here's what makes me beam every time I walk through our bathroom!!

I couldn't be happier with my quick and easy $12 project.  It adds another layer of material & color to our bathroom while making something very functional.  My 3 year old is convinced I built it so I can eat my dinner at that table. Sometimes I wish I could ;)

If you want to build one too and have any questions, let me know!

    1. When you want to take a shower, you get your clothes and towel ready and you get in the shower.
